Kimberly Mercurio Wins a 2017 APLD International Landscape Design Award

Kimberly Mercurio Landscape Architecture won the 2017 APLD International Landscape Design Award for her Cape Cod Barn and Pool, design located in Orleans, MA. The project won a silver and was commended by the judges for her pool terrace design, the softening of the bluestone paving with creepers and re-use of barn materials to make furniture.

About The Landscape Design

This award winning landscape design is located near the National Seashore for a home in Orleans, MA on Cape Cod. The landscape design combined both traditional and modern Cape Cod aesthetics. The plan encourages a connection between indoors and out. The barn opens to a dry laid bluestone terrace with joints of creeping thyme, and wraps around the building providing walkways and defined outdoor seating areas.  The pool has bluestone tiles, a pebble sheen finish, a bluestone pool coping, and a hidden track automated pool cover. The barn is new construction; it has a spacious dining area, with sliding barn doors with copper screens that open onto the bluestone terrace and views of hydrangeas and summer flowering shrubs. Wood from a pre-existing barn was salvaged to assemble simple outdoor furnishings.  The barn also contains changing rooms and a bath allowing it to double as a pool house. This vacation home is perfect for Summer entertaining.
